The National Health Service (NHS) is the primary healthcare provider in the United Kingdom, offering a wide range of medical services to patients across the country. With a commitment to delivering high-quality care and improving patient outcomes, the NHS plays a vital role in supporting individuals with various health conditions, including pulmonary rehabilitation for individuals with respiratory issues.
Despite the effectiveness of pulmonary rehabilitation programs in improving the quality of life for patients with respiratory conditions, there was a need to raise awareness and encourage participation in these programs within the NHS. Many patients were unaware of the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation or hesitant and scared to attend due to misconceptions or anxiety about the program. Healthcare professionals also faced challenges in effectively communicating the value of pulmonary rehabilitation to patients and encouraging them to participate.
To address these challenges, our team proposed the development of a promotional video highlighting the journey of patients through pulmonary rehabilitation within the NHS. The video features patient testimonials, showcasing their experiences from referral to attending pulmonary rehabilitation sessions. It also includes insights from healthcare professionals, emphasising the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation and the supportive environment provided during sessions.
The video shows the pulmonary rehabilitation class environment, including exercises, equipment, and interactions between patients and healthcare professionals. By combining patient stories with visuals of the pulmonary rehabilitation program, the video aims to educate and ease patients’ nerves, inspiring them to consider pulmonary rehabilitation as a valuable component of their treatment plan.

Following the implementation of the promotional video, feedback from healthcare providers has been overwhelmingly positive. They found the video to be a valuable resource in effectively communicating the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation to patients. Healthcare professionals noted that the video facilitated improved communication with patients regarding pulmonary rehabilitation, leading to higher referral rates and increased participation in the program. We anticipate that this positive feedback will translate into improved patient engagement and ultimately contribute to enhanced quality of life for individuals with respiratory conditions within the NHS.
